
Ian Sadler
Ian Sadler is a Canadian concert organist.
Trained in the UK, he was a boy chorister at
St. Paul's Cathedral, Organ Scholar at Bristol
University and during postgraduate study, Organ
Scholar back at St. Paul's Cathedral under John
Scott and Christopher Dearnley. At age 22, he
was appointed Director of Muisc at Toronto's
Grace Church on-the-Hill. He studied organ with
Stephen Darlington (Christ Church, Oxford),
David Sanger (London) and Mirielle Lagacé
(Montreal).
In 1986 Ian won first prize at Syracuse
University's Poister Competiton. In 1999, he
won a Juno Award for a CD recording and in
March of 2008 his 9th solo CD was released,
'Romantic Music for Organ, Vol. I', from St.
James' Cathedral in Toronto. Last season, Ian
played concertos with 4 Canadian orchestras and
this November he is to play the Saint-Saëns
Symphony and Poulenc Concerto with Ontario's
Symphony London.
Ian has recently performed in the UK at St.
Paul's Cathedral, King's College Chapel,
Cambridge, the Cathedrals in Winchester,
Norwich, Truro, Exeter and Coventry. Ian has
also presented recitals recently in Sweden,
Denmark, Holland, Italy and the USA.
Plans for 2009/10 include 2 further solo CDs -
one dedicated to the music of Mendelssohn for
his 200th Anniversary, a recital tour in
Australia and New Zealand and further concerts
in Denmark & Sweden. Ian makes his home in
Stratford, Ontario, just west of Toronto, where
he conducts the 90 voice Stratford Concert
Choir and the Cathedral Singers of Ontario. The
Royal Canadian College of Organists recently
honoured Ian with their highest award, an
Honourary Fellowship, for his dedication to the
promotion of the organ both in North America
and overseas.
